Every week a Guardian Money reader submits a question, and it's up to you to help him or her out – a selection of the best answers will appear in next Saturday's paper.
This week's question:
I was unable to avoid a dog which ran into the road and was seriously hurt by my car. I apologised to the owner, who furiously told me to go away. It wasn't my fault: a gate was left open. I can't afford it, but should I offer to help pay for the vet, as it will weigh on my conscience. What should I do?
What are your thoughts?
