Sometimes, you don’t always get what you pay for. In most cases, people seem to receive a smaller portion than what they expected. In this case, one woman couldn’t believe the size of the whole rainbow cake she got from IKEA for $10.
“I’m heading out to get a whole cake from IKEA,” TikTok creator Jazylynn (@morejessandjaz) says while sitting in her car. “I’m gonna assume it’s gonna be a personal cake. Let’s go see.”
Next, the clip shows her standing inside IKEA’s food court, in front of a screen advertising a $4.99 vanilla cake with rainbow filling.
“So, that’s the cake I’m supposed to get,” she says, referring to the cake slice on the screen. Afterward, the content creator returns to her car with a large box wrapped in plastic on her lap.
“It was a 16-inch cake. It came frozen and packaged,” she explains, ripping the plastic off the box.
When Jazylynn opens the container, she unveils a giant round vanilla cake cut into neat, 16 slices.
“This whole cake cost me $10. It’s crazy to think that each individual [slice is charged] $4.99,” she says. Grabbing a slice from the box, she lifts it to reveal the same rainbow stripes inside as the individual ones. “I have to wait until tomorrow to see how it tastes,” she concludes.
What did viewers think?
Jazylynn’s video was posted on July 25. Since then, it has garnered 18,000 views. Because whole cakes, as a rule, can be expensive, some flooded the comments section with questions about how the content creator scored this deal.
“How did you do that? Did you just like call them in advance?” one viewer asked.
“Did you have to order it or did you just go in and ask for it?” a second echoed.
Regardless of the price, others believed the cake wasn’t worth it.
“Should have went to walmart,” one commenter remarked.
“I tried it in the food court. It tastes like a cheap cake,” another stated.
How did she buy a $10 IKEA cake?
“I’mma tell you how I got a whole cake from IKEA for only $10,” Jazlynn starts the follow-up video. “So, it’s an app called Too Good To Go. The app is designed to reduce food waste. Instead of the restaurants throwing away the food, they sell it to us for a cheaper price.”
Since 2o16, the company has helped save 400 million meals from being discarded. By connecting customers to businesses with excess food to sell for a lower cost through the app, it sounds like a win-win for everyone. However, there are a couple of catches.
“But the food is random. You don’t get to pick whatever you get,” she explains. “You have to wait till the store closes to be able to get food but that means we have food for tomorrow.”
Is the cake available?
No, it’s not. In celebration of Pride Month, this limited-time cake was available for sale from May 1 to July 31. From each slice sale, the Swedish company donated a dollar to Rainbow Railroad USA, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting LGBTQI+ individuals fleeing persecution.
