'Should have been £6m!' - Aberdeen fans react to Scott McKenna's transfer to Nottingham Forest

Aberdeen fans have been wishing Scott McKenna well after the club favourite was snapped up by Nottingham Forest for the new season.

He has signed a four-year deal at the City Ground and leaves behind a fanbase who weren't surprised by his exit, but were mainly surprised by the fee.

Here's how the Dons fans reacted:

Steve Morrison: Good luck for the future.

Do well and earn us a sell-on fee!

Markos: A record club fee which should have been around 6m upfront!!! With the crazy amount that transfer fees have risen to for even mediocre players then this is just p***!

Chidi : He’ll be missed on the park but he was always going to move on. Finally cashing in on an asset

Andy Shaw: All the best Scotty you will be a big miss for the Dons!!

Sean King : Good luck big man!

Aberdeen broke the news on their twitter pages and website today, stating:

"We can today confirm that after 118 first team appearances and 18 Scotland caps, @AberdeenFCYouth graduate Scott McKenna has joined @NFFC for a club record fee.

"Everyone at AFC would like to thank Scott for his efforts during his time with the Club and wish him all the very best in his future career. #StandFree Scott!"

Forest fans have seen a lot of transfer activity in recent weeks, eleven new faces in total.

They have reacted well to the arrival of McKenna. Here's what they have been saying:

Rocky: Happy with this, the guys a unit and left sided.

Olly : Our squad is actually unbelievable

Dylan Jackson : We have to get promoted this squad is unreal

Henrik: Welcome to Forest! Play tough and lead!

Warren: We’re Nottingham Forest, we sign who we want.

Mr Bean: That is a great signing. Solid CB. Well in Forest

McKenna will provide another option in the centre of defence, with the head coach understood to be keen to shore up a back line which has looked vulnerable in the opening two Championship games.

Tobias Figueiredo and Joe Worrall have been the first-choice partnership so far, but will now have more competition, with McKenna joining Michael Dawson, Yohan Benalouane and fellow summer arrivals Mbe Soh and Blackett in fighting for a spot.

The 23-year-old has been a long-term target for Forest, with the club having tried to sign him last summer, amid interest from a number of other teams.

The deal is said to be worth £3m up front, but could reach £5m with various add-ons, while Aberdeen reportedly have a sell-on clause which could see them bag more than 20 percent of any future sale.

McKenna has come up through the ranks at the Scottish club and has made close to 120 appearances for them, while also having loan spells at Ayr United and Alloa Athletic.

He links up with the Reds ahead of Friday’s clash at Huddersfield Town, where they will go in search of their first win of the season.
