Should Giants make a run at Cameron Meredith?

There couldn’t be a more perfect match than the New York Giants and wide receiver, Cameron Meredith.

The New Orleans Saints cut Meredith loose on Monday after he played in just six games for the team in 2018, and totaled nine catches for 114 yards and one touchdown.

It was clear the 26-year-old wasn’t fully over the torn ACL from 2017 that saw him suffer extensive ligament damage — but things were looking up for Meredith in 2019.

Meredith seemed to finally be getting on the right track to returning to the field at 100 percent, and Saints head coach Sean Payton made it sound like he wasn’t being cut because of health concerns, per Mike Triplett of ESPN.

“The injury he had set him back, and then some of these younger guys now have just been doing a good enough job. And it’s hard with the numbers,” Payton said. “It’s unfortunate because he’s someone that has worked hard, he’s worked his tail off. And yet it was gonna be hard for him to catch this group of younger guys that are competing.”

The Giants’ No. 1 priority should be the 6-foot-3 receiver at this point after a disastrous week has left the Giants’ receiving corps. in shambles.

First, Sterling Shepard fractured his thumb (he could be ready for Week 1), then Corey Coleman tore his ACL. Not to be outdone, that was followed by the announcement that Golden Tate is facing a four-game suspension.

If this was a cartoon, the team would have a rain cloud over it in an otherwise perfectly clear sky. You simply can’t make up this unfathomable chain of events, especially when you consider the white-hot spotlight on the team from the Odell Beckham Jr. trade.

Meredith’s best season came in 2016, when he totaled 66 catches for 888 yards and four touchdowns with the Chicago Bears. Even if Meredith only has half that ability left, it’s still better than almost anyone the Giants will be running out there in Week 1.

No matter what shape he is currently in, the Giants should bring Meredith in by any means necessary. It’s as if the football gods are giving the G-Men a reprieve following a week of unspeakable bad luck.
