Should fireworks be banned for good? Bristol residents have your say

You would struggle not to remember, remember the fifth of November with the amount of fireworks exploding in the sky every year.

For some, they are a form of entertainment and amusement, but for others they are a nuisance.

Every year as Bonfire Night rolls around, the debate surrounding fireworks is sparked once more.

Many enjoy the tradition and choose to meet up with friends and family at this time of year and attend a local display or even host their own display in their gardens at home.

However, it’s not fun for everyone. In fact for some it's exactly the opposite.

It can be especially distressing for animals. Lots of us have pets and this is a time of year that we dread for them because they are absolutely petrified from the loud bangs that fireworks let off.

Surely, there’s a solution - should supermarkets just stop selling fireworks altogether or should they only sell ‘low-noise’ or ‘silent’ fireworks?

Sainsbury's has already revealed they will not be selling fireworks this year after experts called for the ban.

And vets and animal charities have issued pleas for supermarkets to stop selling fireworks due to the danger they pose.

Many people aren’t aware that fireworks displays can often be triggering for people with PTSD, many of whom struggle with loud noises.

Symptoms of PTSD, which stem from a shocking or terrifying experience, can be triggered by sights, sounds, or smells that other people find tolerable or even fun.

If low noise fireworks are an option, why are we even using the ‘loud’ ones to begin with.
