Should chocolate be kept in the fridge or cupboard? Cadbury has settled the debate for good

It's the national debate which makes Brexit look like a minor quibble.

Whether or not chocolate belongs in the fridge divides communities, families - and even ourselves.

For some, the tooth-crunching snap of an ice-cold bar fresh out the fridge sends a shiver down the spine.

For others, the sweaty crumble of a snack left on the bench and threatening to melt is like eating moist clay.

Finally, Cadbury's have moved to put the debate to bed once and for all.

The firm's Australian account weighed in on the debate on their Twitter account, posting: "Chocolate should always be stored in a slightly cool, dry, dark place such as cupboard or pantry at temperatures less than 21°C to ensure the quality isn't compromised."

The responses to the Tweet weren't all entirely conciliatory and it might be a while until we truly move on.

It's a victory for the cupboard-storers hot off the heels of their win in the Great Ketchup Row.

Heinz previously confirmed its bottles of Tommy K don't need to be kept in the fridge because it's acidity means it 'self-stabilises' - in other words, doesn't go off.

Of course, these matters are all down to personal preference - but the cupboard crew wins this round.
