Should children be heading back to school? Tell us how you feel

Pupils across Britain will begin returning to the classroom in the coming weeks despite lingering fears over coronavirus.

Boris Johnson is standing by his pledge to "fully" reopen England's schools by September - adding it was "our moral duty as a country to make sure that happens". However, teachers' unions have been angered by the potential move, citing fears of a potentially deadly second wave later this year.

Schools have promised to make teaching environments safe by ensuring mask-wearing and social distancing in classrooms. Health experts also say the risk to pupils from coronavirus is believed to be quite low as the virus mainly affects older people and those with pre-existing conditions.

However, some say allowing students back into the classroom - particularly young children - could lead to an unintentional spread of the virus elsewhere.

We are asking readers what they think of the way the situation has been handled. Is now the right time for pupils to return to the class room? Or has the government failed to ensure schools will be safe enough? Let us know by filling out the survey.
