Should Chargers make a move for Jaguars DT Malik Jackson?

The Chargers have an obvious need at defensive tackle. We’ve made that clear. You know that if you are reading this. On Saturday morning, the Jaguars reportedly are making Malik Jackson available for trade:

Jags fans have been saying for awhile that this would be Jackson’s last year with the team. Jacksonville selecting DT Taven Bryan made that even more obvious during the 2018 NFL Draft.

Looking at Jackson’s contract, he isn’t cheap. Usually when teams say they are making a player available for trade at this point, that means they are reaching and more than likely going to cut that player. It would make plenty of sense for the Chargers to pursue Jackson at a price more affordable. That said, for a known quantity that has produced like Jackson, he’s going to get paid somewhere.

In 2017, Jackson was a great player. He was still good in 2018, but not as effective. He finished this last year with 12 QB hits, seven tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks. He would be the best defensive tackle the Chargers have had in some time.
