Should Bengals follow Bears’ lead with ticket changes for 2020?

Given the unknowns about the upcoming NFL season, the Cincinnati Bengals could end up doing something similar to what the Chicago Bears have done for their season ticket holders.

Monday, the Bears informed fans that season-ticket holders who opt out of the 2020 season could get a refund and won’t lose their spot in line for the same package the following season.

Part of the letter, via Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune:

“Our hope is to build a model that provides the opportunity to see the Bears play this fall to as many Season Ticket Holders as possible. We will communicate your options as soon as a plan is finalized. Given all of the current uncertainties, we want to inform you that one option will be to provide you a full refund for the 2020 season while still retaining your ability to renew your season tickets in 2021 in your same seat location.”

The Bengals might want to consider something similar for fans who don’t want to make it to Paul Brown Stadium in 2020, season tickets or otherwise. NFL rules already state the team has to cover the first six to eight rows of the stadium next season.

Cincinnati has time to sort out some of these details, including what to do with the covered seats, what to do with fans displaced by the rule and whether to follow examples set by the Bears.

Expect word soon, especially now that a team like the Bears crafted a blueprint.
