Should Bears cut RB Mike Davis?

The Chicago Bears have a decision to make about free agent acquisition Mike Davis. And they don’t have long to make it.

After signing the veteran running back to a two-year deal worth $6 million, Davis hasn’t had much — or any — impact on the Bears offense this season. He’s been nonexistent with rookie David Montgomery getting a bulk of the carries, along with veteran Tarik Cohen.

Bears general manager Ryan Pace has just five days to decide if Davis is worth keeping at the expense of losing a fourth round 2020 compensatory pick acquired with the loss of Packers safety Adrian Amos.

The Bears clearly don’t value Davis enough to risk losing a fourth-round compensatory pick, as he has just 11 carries for 25 yards for the entire season.

Every draft pick is a valuable one for the Bears, who traded away their first-round pick and third-round pick to the Oakland Raiders in the Khalil Mack deal. Chicago also traded their 2020 fourth-round selection to the New England Patriots in order to move up to draft Montgomery.

The Bears do have two second-round picks in the 2020 draft, but with the Bears among the bottom of the NFL in available salary cap space in 2020, every draft pick is important.
