'Should be ashamed!' - Simon Jordan slams 'contemptible' Mohamed Salah decisions at Liverpool

Simon Jordan has slammed Mohamed Salah in his latest rant against diving in football, insisting it needs to be eradicated from the game once and for all.

The Egyptian and Manchester United's Harry Maguire were both involved in incidents over the weekend where they were denied spot-kicks against Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion respectively, with the Liverpool forward going to ground following a challenge from Leicester City’s Ricardo Pereira.

While the Reds were not awarded a penalty, Maguire was for the Red Devils after a tangle with Semi Ajayi, however, the decision by Craig Pawson was overturned following a VAR check.

But outspoken TalkSPORT host Jordan is adamant that neither incident warranted a penalty and slammed Salah in particular, accusing him of "bringing the game into disrepute" and insisting he should be "ashamed" of himself.

"Players are cheats and referees are weak. And there’s a lack of consequence," the former Crystal Palace chairman insisted on TalkSPORT. “You look at some of these decisions that are being given or contemplated.

"This might be slightly idealistic on my part but the players should be ashamed of themselves. These are professional footballers. You look at it and go ‘what the hell are you players about?'

"Look at some of the decisions that Mohamed Salah gets at Liverpool. He’s an outstanding footballer who scores wonderful goals but I think some of the decisions that he buys are contemptible.

"Harry Maguire is a Goliath of a man – minimal contact! If you look at the contact itself, you’d think someone had attached him to a pulley and pulled him down. He was barely touched!

"Some of the players bring the game into disrepute."

He continued: "It’s the whole sentiment of the way the game has been allowed to go. Whether it’s players coming from abroad or a culture of coaching or a win at all costs mentality, it needs to be eradicated.

"It comes down to how the officials are prepared to referee the games.

"If you don’t want this in our game then it’s incumbent on the PGMOL to get the referees to stamp this out and the way you stamp something out is to consequent the players when they’re trying to buy, con or cheat a penalty for virtually no contact whatsoever.

"What do they get? On the whole, nothing!"
