Should anybody listen to Tony Blair?

Former British prime minister Tony Blair in 2024

The introduction of the minimum wage, Sure Start centres, reduced class sizes in schools, shortest hospital waiting lists in decades, peace in Northern Ireland, a mature attitude to Europe, financial stability after years of Conservative mismanagement and lethargy. Yes, Zoe Williams, people like Tony Blair aren’t perfect, and Iraq will for ever besmirch his reputation, but I am prepared to give him credit where it’s due (It’s the anti net-zero, anti-woke Tony Blair – how was this man ever considered a progressive?, 30 April).

• I worked for a company running international oil and gas events, and we worked with Tony Blair to produce the Global Energy Transition Congress. He would only travel by private jet. Blair does not care about the climate crisis or climate justice. He has insulated himself from its threat by aligning himself with the billionaire class who do the same. We should stop listening to him and stop putting him on the front pages of newspapers in a way that lends credence to his shameless publicity stunts.

• Zoe Williams’ article about Tony Blair reminded me of the clue for 10 across in cryptic crossword No 25,057 (8 July 2010), by Arachne: “Tory in Lab disguise? (4,5)”.
