Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry reiterated his country's firm position in supporting the Palestinian people and their legitimate right to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy decisions.
The remarks came as Shoukry received on Wednesday the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Nickolay Mladenov, at the ministry headquarters, where they discussed the latest developments of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The Egyptian FM also voiced support for the UN envoy's efforts that seek reviving the Middle East peace process and achieving stability and security in the region.
For his part, Mladenov updated the Egyptian top diplomat with the latest talks he had with the concerned parties for this purpose, expressing his keenness on continuous coordination with Cairo in this regard.
He also expressed appreciations for the continued Egyptian vital role to reach a just and permanent solution for Palestinian issue.
At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue consultations and coordination during the next phase, in order to follow up on relevant developments.
