Shotts Salvation Army star Amy-Jo wins Say it with Flowers competition

This week’s winner of our Say it with Flowers competition is Shotts Salvation Army star Amy-Jo Battersby.

Army Crops Lieutenant Amy-Jo has been a helping hand in the Shotts community for several years.

She also came to the fore when the Healthcare Environmental Services (HES) plant in the town was unexpectedly closed at the start of the year, forcing more than a hundred people into redundancy.

She helped hold two days of events with foodbanks, recruitment agencies, councillors and Department of Work and Pensions officials to help those affected get back on their feet.

Shotts Community Councillor Janice Connelly nominated Amy-Jo to receive the flowers - provided by Newmains florist Pixie’s Petals - as a thank you for all her hard work over the years.

Janice said: “It was absolutely fabulous what she did for the community at such a difficult time.

“It’s wonderful that she had the motivation to do it. Not many people would so selflessly jump into action like that.

“Amy-Jo always goes quietly about her business but she makes a massive difference across Shotts.

“Her community work in general is amazing, but her hard work for the HES employees really summed her up.

“She’s one of a kind and Shotts is lucky to have her.”
