‘I’m a one-man band, I’ve been booking and beautifying my customers for 20 years’.
Mum-of-two Margaret McDowall has been working solo in her beauty salon in Station Road, Shotts, for two decades.
And the 51-year-old was honoured when she found out that one of her loyal customers had nominated her for a prestigious award.
Thanks to Linda Norton’s nomination to the Scottish Beauty Industry Awards, Margaret is now a finalist in the Five Star Beauty Salon – South of Scotland category.
Margaret said: “I couldn’t believe it when I found out Linda had nominated me.
“I was so touched and honoured by it. It was very kind of her to go out of her way to do it and then to get other people to vote for me too.
“I’ve been doing this for 20 odd years and I still love it.
“It’s always only been me working in the shop. I do a bit of everything.
“I answer the phone, I book them in and then I do the their treatments.
“It’s the way I like it.”
Margaret said she has built up great relationships with her clients over the years and now counts many of them as family.
She added: “My clients are most certainly my friends, but I now count many of them as my family.
“It’s such a rewarding job and I’ve met so many amazing people over the years. “
The Inaugural Scottish Beauty Industry Awards aim to acknowledge and celebrate the best of
the beauty industry in Scotland.
These awards celebrate the hard work of the best professionals and businesses in the aesthetics and beauty sector.
The winner will be announced at a plush ceremony in the Marriot Hotel, Glasgow on June 30.
Margaret added: “Obviously I’d love to win, but I’m just happy to be recognised.
“When my daughter found out I had made the finals she told me how proud she was of me – that moment in itself made me feel like I had won.”
