A group of Shotts residents fear they may lose a much-loved green space in the town.
They are worried that some of Vics Park may be turned into residential and retail space, as highlighted in Shotts Vision.
The draft document is part of North Lanarkshire's The Place The Vision program which aims to transform towns into more appealing and liveable places.
However, some residents have come together to warn that building on the park will affect the town and the people living there who use the it.
Resident Louise Murphy is particularly concerned. She told Lanarkshire Live: "The Vics Park is a part of Shotts history and has been here forever.
"To lose this park space will affect the locals and our community.
"People use the facilities a lot for walking and exercise. Some elderly people are still scared to come out due to the pandemic so walks around the park are vital to them.
"The council are wanting to replace the football parks with MUGA pitches and artificial ones, which just isn't good enough and costly.
"All Vics Park needs is proper maintenance and it will be fine to use.
A council spokesperson said: “The visions for our town centres, including Shotts, offer a concept design as to how each town could be reshaped in the future that tries to recognise the decline of traditional town centres and create towns that are fit for purpose and meet the needs of local communities.
"Active travel, outdoor leisure and greenspace play an important role in the future of all our towns, and any future plans will always aim to ensure that good quality parks and open space form a key element.
"The visions are not masterplans and any development in any town would be subject to the normal planning consultation.”
