Shotts politicians cancel face-to-face appointments due to coronavirus

Coronavirus has forced two Shotts politicians to suspend face-to-face appointments with their constituents.

Shotts MP Neil Gray and MSP Alex Neil have taken the decision to suspend all face-to-face appointments from today due to the ongoing pandemic.

All telephone, post and email enquiries will be treated in the normal way and the politician will be ensuring that they continue to represent their constituents as robustly as usual.

Face-to-face appointments and community centre surgeries will be cancelled until further notice. Community visits, engagements and meetings that have been planned by both politicians have either been postponed or are under review.

Mr Gray said: “We have taken this decision to protect not just our staff but the wider population. I want to stress that no one in either mine or Alex’s office has tested positive for coronavirus or displayed any symptoms, but we obviously do not want to put anyone at risk.

“All emails, voice messages and mail will be answered as usual, but we will be keeping everyone updated via our respective social media platforms.”

Mr Neil agreed: “At times like this we cannot take risks with anyone’s health. Neil and I decided to take this decision following advice from both parliamentary whips offices but are determined to continue to work on behalf of our constituents albeit from other locations.”
