Shotts must win against Petershill if they are to go for promotion says assistant boss

Assistant boss Martin Devlin says the clash with Petershill is a must-win if Shotts are to earn promotion this term.

Following back-to-back Junior Cup and West of Scotland Cup exits The Bonny will return to league action this weekend against Petershill.

Devlin reckons if they don’t take three points back to Hannah Park they run the risk of finishing in mid-table in the West Region Championship.

He said: “It’s a massively important game. We haven’t played in the league since Gartcairn, when we dropped two points. Then we have missed a couple of weeks, and been knocked out of the cup competitions.

“We don’t want to be out of the competitions this early, but the focus has always been on the league.

“There is a risk that we won’t be challenging at the top, and for this team that isn’t good enough.

“We have to beat Petershill, but we know they have picked up with their new manager.

“We need to put points on the board soon so we don’t end up being stuck in a mini-league in the middle of the table.

“We have missed a few games but we can’t pretend we are still third.”
