Shotts mum is praised for her strength and resilience by her proud family

more thanA selfless woman, described as the glue that holds her family together, has been praised for her strength and resilience by her family.

Catherine Anne Strang, 57, from Shotts, was nominated for the Wishaw Press Say It With Flowers competition by her daughter, Lauren.

The mum-of-six and her beloved husband Lawrence have been blissfully happy for almost 40 years.

And as well as devoting her life to raising her family, she began a career as a school support worker, a position she has held for 15 years.

Tragically, in December 2015 she lost her grandson Aidan to cot death, and in April her sister, Suzanne, passed away with cancer, followed by the loss of her 91-year-old mum in June.

Despite this, she has remained strong for her children Christopher, Darren, Rachel, Lauren, Brendan and Bethany, and grandchildren Lexi, Kian, Ethan, Grace, Kason, and two-week-old Aaliyah.

Lauren said: “We are a very close knit family and it was a massive loss to my mum and her siblings because they were so close and if that wasn’t heart-breaking enough, we then lost my gran in June.

“My mum has super strength and has glided through the last couple of months with the weight upon her shoulders and never once broke down or took time to herself. She just keeps going and stays strong for us all.”

And when Lauren told us about her amazing mum, we were thrilled to recognise her, presenting her with these beautiful flowers, courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals.

“I think she will be shocked to receive these flowers, but I just want her to know how much she is loved and appreciated by all of us,” said Lauren.
