Shotts man remains on bail after driving offence

An opportunistic motorist took a car without permission and drove it while under a court driving ban.

David Farquharson pleaded guilty at Airdrie Sheriff Court to driving a Class C Mercedes while disqualified and without insurance.

The offences happened on Duntilland Road, Airdrie, on January 6 this year.

Later the same day, at Coatbridge police office, Farquharson, of Shotts, provided false details to police officers with the intention of perverting the course of justice.

Defence lawyer Simon Gilmour told the court that reports previously ordered by the Sheriff had not yet been prepared.

Sheriff Fergus Thomson deferred sentence until March 4.

Sheriff Thomson also called for a full social work background report and for a restriction of liberty order assessment to be carried out.

The 24-year-old’s bail was allowed to continue.
