Shotts boss John McKeown has a selection headache for Saturday’s West of Scotland League Conference A clash at home to Maybole, with six players missing due to the September weekend.
But he says that’s an opportunity for others within the squad to come in and stake a claim for a first-team place.
Five players are on holiday while Dean Kindlan is suspended, while McKeown expects Maybole to be full strength for the Hannah Park clash.
But he says it’s good to be back in action after a weekend ‘off’ while a Shotts XI hosted Rangers Legends in a charity match.
McKeown said: “I’ve got a bit of a selection headache, I have half a dozen away this week for various reasons – one suspension and the rest are on holiday due to the September weekend.
“That’s disappointing, but it’s been a long time since the boys have had holidays, so I kind of expected these things, but it’s disappointing.
“It’s the reason why we went with a bigger squad, but it’s left us really short for the weekend, so hopefully we can overcome it.
“The thing is, it’s not an Ayrshire September weekend, so they’ll probably be pretty full strength, I would imagine.
“They’re a good team, they’ve been on a good run and they have good players.
“They have a lot of boys that I managed at Cumnock, so they have some good players.
“It’s good to have a game, though, and it gives others an opportunity to try and take a place, so I’m looking forward to it.”
