Shotts eye Whitletts win to stay top of the tree at Christmas

Shotts boss John McKeown wants a win over Whitletts Victoria on Saturday to ensure his side stay top of the tree for Christmas.

The West of Scotland Conference B leaders travel to third place Vics on Saturday, two points clear of second place Arthurlie.

And McKeown said: “We beat them 3-1 at our place earlier in the season, but it was a hard game and they’ve been on good form since then so we know it will be a tough one.

“We are just looking to get a game under our belt and do ourselves justice.

“It would be nice to stay top. You always want to be top of the table at Christmas and that’s what we’ll be looking to do.

“We will need to be at our best to do it.

"Vics are well-organised, a physical side with aggressive centre backs and they are a hard team to beat.”

Shotts are keen to get teh game on after being sidelined at the weekend. Their West of Scotland League Cup clash with Port Glasgow feel victim to a frozen pitch but McKeown had n arguements with teh decision.

He added: "It's been one thing after another with the games.

Shotts boss John McKeown says the right decision was made on Saturday (Dominic Cocozza)

"We had to give Port Glasgow a relatively early shout because they had a bit of travelling.

"The pitch was still hard in places and the ref came out and said no chance. That's fair enpough."
