Shotts cyclists raise cash for local community food bank Pauls Parcels

Cyclists from Shotts got in gear to raise money for a local cause that helps put food on the table for struggling families.

Fifteen cyclists from community group Getting Better Together Shotts got on their bikes just in time for the last ever Pedal for Scotland challenge.

And the group’s active travel co-ordinator Craig Bridges believes the age range of those turning out was proof their innovative programme is working.

Craig said: “Through our active travel programmes we have been encouraging more and more people to get walking and cycling.

“The group that took part in Pedal for Scotland ranged in age from Emily Wilson who is seven to Joe Duffy who is 76.

“That shows that cycling really is for everyone, whatever their age.

“We raised money collectively for Paul’s Parcels, a local food bank in Shotts which serves people around the town and into Wishaw.

“It was a beautiful sunny day for it and now we will keep taking on other cycling challenges to try and encourage more people to get on their bikes and get healthy.”
