Armed police were scrambled to a Liverpool street following a lunchtime shooting.
Patrols were sent to Garston after Merseyside Police received reports that shots had been fired at 1.45pm.
Officers swarmed Chesterton Street, where evidence of a shooting was discovered.
There are no reported injuries at this time.
Chesterton Street was cordoned off by police while witness, CCTV and forensic enquiries are carried out.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Smith today slammed the thugs behind the "reckless" attack.
He said: "We're initially looking to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident, or saw anyone making off around this time. Your description, CCTV, dashcam or other information could help us find those responsible quickly.
"To fire a weapon in a residential area in the daytime is incredibly reckless. Thankfully on this occasion, it appears nobody was injured, but we're determined to put those involved before the courts.
"We've seen a big decrease in such incidents in the past 18 months and those communities affected by gun crime and other violence are often the key to this success, leading weapon seizures and the arrest and conviction of people who bring such lethal weapons onto the streets. Tell us what you know and we'll take action."
