Shots fired in Liverpool street where caravan found torched

Two men were arrested after police discovered bullet casings and a torched caravan in a Liverpool street last night.

Officers remained on Ivy Avenue in Garston today, May 20, following reports of a shooting and a caravan being set on fire, during two linked incidents on Tuesday.

At around 8.20pm on Tuesday, May 19, police were called to Ivy Avenue in Garston following reports of loud bangs being heard in the area.

During a search of the street, bullet casings were discovered but there were no reports of any injuries.

Meanwhile, a short time later, at 10.55pm, police received a further report of damage being caused to cars and a caravan being set on fire.

Two men were arrested at the scene and have been taken into custody for questioning.

They were a 43-year-old man who was arrested for affray and a 44 year-old man who was arrested for affray, criminal damage and section 18 assault.

The two incidents are believed to be linked and an investigation is currently underway, including house-to-house and CCTV enquiries.

Photos taken at the scene this morning show a burned out caravan and what appears to be a bullet hole in the windscreen of a Volkswagen Beetle.

Detective Inspector Sabi Kaur said: “The investigation is in the early stages. We believe both incidents are linked but are making enquiries to establish what has taken place.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Ivy Avenue last night who saw anyone or anything suspicious to contact us as they may have information which is vital to our investigation.”
