File photo.

POLICE believe gun shots may have been fired into a backyard shed from a moving vessel in south-west Lake Macquarie.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District were called to an address on Ruttleys Road about 5.45pm on Friday after reports of possible gunfire.

General duties police were assisted by specialist units at the scene and established a crime scene where multiple bullet holes were found in a shed.

Early investigations suggest the shots may have been fired from a passing vessel on Wyee Creek, NSW Police said in a statement.

No one was injured during the incident.

Anyone with information should contact detectives at Lake Macquarie Police District, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
