Chicago police returned gunfire after shots were fired at two officers Wednesday evening in Calumet Heights, according to the police department.

Two officers were in a covert vehicle about 7:30 p.m. in the 2600 Block of East 92nd Street conducting surveillance on another vehicle possibly wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation, Chicago police said.

Three males enter the vehicle and the front passenger then fired shots at the officers, who returned fire, according to police. No one was shot or injured, police said.

The males all fled the vehicle and one was placed in custody, police said. A weapon was also recovered at the scene, according to police.

Officers are still looking for the two other males involved in the shooting, police said. They were wearing surgical masks and all-black clothing, according to police.

The two officers were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center for observation and are in good condition, police said.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability will investigate the incident and the use of force.

Both officers will be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days.
