Neighbours report gunshots at house as windows damaged in early hours attack

Neighbours reported that gunshots were fired at a house in Skelmersdale in the early hours of this morning.

Police are currently searching Fairstead after people suspected gun was fired at a property in the area.

Emergency services attended the scene, at around 3.50am today, on Monday, January 10, and confirmed that no-one was injured.

Officers believe that the incident was a targeted attack, however the investigation is in its early stages.

It appears that the window has been smashed multiple times, with at least five holes in the glass.

Lancashire police have upped patrols in the area after the incident.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We were called at 3.50am today (Monday, January 10 th ) to a report of a suspected firearms discharge in Skelmersdale.

"Officers attended an address in Fairstead where it is believed a firearm was discharged towards a property.

"Fortunately no-one was injured.

"Enquiries are underway but at this stage we believe the incident to be a targeted attack.

"Reassurance patrols have been stepped up in the area and anyone with concerns should speak to an officer.

"Anyone with any information about the incident should contact police on 101 quoting log number 118 of January 10th or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Later on Monday, Lancashire Police issued another statement saying they believed the damage to the window was caused by bricks and stones.

The force added: "Officers attended an address in Fairstead where it was initially believed a firearm had been discharged towards a property and damage caused to a number of windows.

"Following further investigations we are now confident that no firearm has been used and the damage was caused to the windows of the property by bricks and stones.

"Enquiries are continuing into the incident which is now being treated as criminal damage.

"We believe the incident to be isolated and targeted."
