Shots fired at home after thugs try to cut through front door

Gun shots were fired at a house in Wirral in what is believed to be a 'targeted attack'.

Emergency services rushed to Hartington Avenue in Birkenhead at around 9.30pm on Monday, July 19, following reports of shots being fired.

Merseyside Police found damage to an upstairs window of a house on the road, but no injuries were reported.

It is believed the house was targeted and witnesses reported seeing several people unsuccessfully trying to cut through the front door before the shots were fired. They then escaped in a BMW.

Crime scene investigators are carrying out forensic examinations at the scene and officers are conducting house-to-house inquiries in the area. Patrols have also been stepped up to reassure the local community.

Detectives are now appealing for information after the incident.

Detective Inspector John Fitzgerald from the firearms investigation team said: “We’re keen to speak to anyone who may be able to help us with our inquiries. Whether you saw or heard the incident or anyone making off, check your CCTV, dashcam or other devices and come forward.

“It appears that this was a targeted attack on a sunny evening when residents would have been out and about, thankfully the reckless actions of these individuals did not result in anyone being injured. If you have any information at all which could help us get these offenders off the streets I would urge you to contact us as soon as possible."
