Shots fired at Georgian and Polish presidents' motorcade

The speaker of the Georgian parliament today said shots were fired at a motorcade carrying the presidents of Georgia and Poland, but no one has been hurt.

David Bakradze said the gunshots came from the breakaway province of South Ossetia, and urged the international community to condemn the incident.

Bakradze gave no further details of today's incident during televised comments.

Lawmaker Marika Verulashvili says shots were fired when the motorcade with the Georgian president, Mikheil Saakashvili, and the Polish president, Lech Kaczynski, approached a Georgian police checkpoint.

Verulashvili said the gunshots came from the territory controlled by South Ossetian separatists and Russian troops.
