'Shots fired' as firefighters battle apartment block blaze in Phoenix, Arizona

Shots were reportedly fired as firefighters battled a blaze at an apartment block in Phoenix, Arizona.

The fire broke out in a four-story apartment complex that was 40 per cent built, the Phoenix Fire Department said in a statement.

The cause of the fire is not known and investigators have been dispatched to the area.

All occupants have been evacuated and no injuries were reported.

However, Phoenix police reported shots being fired in the area as crews worked to contain the blaze late last night.

Bystanders were also said to have jumped the fence into the area of the fire.

In a statement Phoenix Fire department said: "Crews coordinated attacks from inside and outside to stop extension and gain control.

"All occupants evacuated and no injuries reported. Investigators are en route."

The department added: "Phoenix police reported shots fire during the fire and other bystanders were reported jumping a fence into the fire area while crews were working"
