'Shots fired' after armed police called to street and man seriously injured

Several gunshots were reportedly fired and a man was left seriously injured after armed police were called to a street.

A heavy police presence is at the Knoll, in Runcorn, this afternoon after officers were called to a "serious incident".

Cheshire Police said police were first called at about 1.20pm to the Runcorn address.

A man was rushed to hospital after he was seriously injured, police said.

Photos from the scene showed at least five police vehicles parked outside as officers investigated.

Witnesses reported hearing what sounded like gunshot noises, although this is still to be confirmed by police.

Footage circulating online showed armed police with their guns pointed towards a man on the floor before two loud bangs are heard.

Cheshire Police said they are aware of the footage but said the investigation is ongoing.

A resident said they heard "two shots after the police told someone to drop something on the hill by the community centre".

The community centre was later cordoned off as CID officers worked at the scene.

There were also reports of passer-bys, including an elderly lady, being told to "stay indoors".
