Shots allegedly fired in Ballyboughal with helicopter deployed as urgent message alert issued

Shots were allegedly fired in a Dublin area after an attempted break-in at a house.

An urgent alert was issued by Ballyboughal Community group to residents after the terrifying incident.

The 'warning gunshots' were reportedly fired when a gang of men tried to gain access to a house in the area two weeks ago.

The message told residents that a helicopter had been deployed to the scene immediately but that the gang had already fled.

The local community group's alert said: "There was a house break-in three weeks ago in the Ballyboughal area.

"Then a week later, three men broke into another house.

"A warning gunshot was allegedly fired and the gang fled.

"The helicopter was out looking for them but unfortunately they got away."

The group also stated the importance of reporting any crime, no matter how big or small, to the Gardai.

They added: "If criminal activity is occurring locally, you must also make contact with the Garda to report these issues.

"If the police don’t file a report then it didn’t happen. It’s as simple as that so please let them know.

"Over the last few weeks, there has been an increase in criminal activity so we want to remind you to be extra vigilant.

"Leave nothing of any value in your garden or in your car as we are receiving reports of car break-ins too and garden theft.

"Protect what belongs to you as others seem to think they have a right to steel it."
