Shotgun scare on Mischief Night sparks armed lockdown in Liverpool street

This was the scene on a Liverpool street after armed police were sent to Norris Green following reports that a man had a shotgun.

Police were called out to Guilstead Road in Norris Green late last night following reports that a man had been seen with a weapon.

Photographs from the scene showed a dramatic scene as armed police surrounded a man with his hands above his head. At one point an armed officer appeared to point a gun at the man.

Police have since told the ECHO that a shotgun was not recovered from the scene and the initial call was treated as a hoax. A 28-year-old man was cautioned at the scene for cannabis possession.

Police were called out to Guilstead Road at around 11.10pm and left the scene at around 12.35am.

A spokesman said: "A search of the area proved negative. This was a hoax call."
