Shota Arveladze confirms positive Covid-19 result as Rangers hero vows to keep fans updated

Rangers hero Shota Arveladze has confirmed he has tested positive for coronavirus.

The 47-year-old former Ibrox striker took to social media to confirm the news and let fans know he is now awaiting a second test to confirm his diagnosis for the virus.

He took to Twitter to say: "I tested positive for Covid-19. I’m currently isolating while waiting for a second test to confirm the results.

"I will keep you updated on how I’m doing. Thanks for your messages."

The Georgian treble-winner is currently manager of Pakhtakor Tashkent in Uzbekistan having started his career in coaching under the tutelage of Champions League winner Louis Van Gaal.

He spent four years at Rangers from 2001 to 2005, winning five trophies including a historic treble under Alex McLeish in 2003.

A player noted for his composure in front of goal and quick feet, he is highly regarded in Govan to this day.

In a storied career he also played for Dinamo Tbilisi, Trabzonspor, Ajax, AZ Alkmaar and Levante.
