Shot fired during road rage incident in Hobart, police say

A gun has been fired during a suspected road rage incident in Hobart's northern suburbs between two parties feuding over a woman, police say.

Members of the public called police to alert them of a car chase along Main Road in Glenorchy and other streets in the suburb just after 11:00am.

A road rage incident was then reported in Springfield Avenue.

The incident then moved to the car park of Hungry Jacks, where the cars of two bystanders were side-swiped.

Witnesses told police one that the occupants of one of the cars hung out of a window to fire a sawn-off shotgun at the other car in Windsor Street.

Police have a statement from one witness saying a shot was fired.

As yet, no-one has come forward to report they were the victim of a shooting.

Detective Acting Inspector David Gill said the parties involved were known to each other and there was no threat to the wider public.

"The incident was as a result of an ongoing feud between two parties known to each other," he said.

"Police are following a particular line of inquiry in relation to this.

"No one was injured and no complaint by the occupants of the vehicle that was shot at has been made to police."

Police later recovered a car they believed to have been involved from Bridgewater.
