Shot dog survives 60 pellet injury and gets forever home for Christmas

It's going to be a very merry Christmas for this lovely wee dog who survived being wounded by 60 gun pellets.

Ashton's injury was discovered after he was placed in the care of the Scottish SPCA. Worried about his aggressive behaviour, the team asked a vet to examine him.

And they were shocked to learn the poor dog was suffering from a traumatic injury, causing him to react out of pain and fear.

Surgery was carried out to remove the pellets, dramatically changing Ashton's view on the world.

Staff at the Lanarkshire centre explained: "Once the pellets had been removed and Ashton had recovered from the operation, his temperament changed dramatically.

"Staff dedicated a lot of time to bringing Ashton out of his shell and soon allowed them to give him a cuddle."

And following lots of love and care, Ashton is now thrilled to have found a home of his own and looking forward to Christmas.

The SSPCA spokesman added: "After receiving the care and rehabilitation he needed, Ashton found his forever home with Michelle and family. Now named Cooper, he's settling in well, but Michelle is on her third pair of slippers.

"Every day he continues to grow and become more confident and trusting of his new family."
