Shortland woman charged with seventh drive while disqualified offence in three years

A 21-year-old Shortland woman has been charged with a seventh drive while disqualified offence following an incident in Wallsend on Tuesday.

At about 10:35pm, police attempted to stop a Holden Commodore sedan on Douglas Street, Wallsend.

The vehicle allegedly failed to stop immediately and continued to drive slowly.

Police said they saw the female driver climb from the drivers seat and move to the rear passenger seat while the car was still moving.

The male passenger then moved into the driver seat shortly before the car stopped.

Police spoke with the occupants and identified the Shortland woman as being a disqualified driver till 2036, along with being on parole for the similar offences until August 2020.

Police said this was her seventh drive whilst disqualified offence in the past three years.

She was arrested and taken to Waratah Police station where she was charged with drive whilst disqualified (second or subsequent offence) and refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.
