Shortland Public School was closed on Monday evening for contact tracing and cleaning after a member of the school community tested positive for COVID-19
A statement by the school overnight said learning from home resources would be mad available for students who normally attend school on-site.
"The safety and wellbeing of our staff and students is of paramount importance to us at all times. As such we will continue to work closely with NSW Health to ensure that all necessary health advice is adhered to," Principal Brendan Rodd said.
"While we recognise this will be disruptive and inconvenient for families, it is important that we follow NSW Health advice and take all necessary precautions to minimise the risk of further transmission to support our community."
Meanwhile, a number of schools in the New England and North West regions of the Hunter New England health district have also been listed as non-operational. They include Moree Public School, Ross Hill Public School in Inverell and Tingha Public School.
