Shops unable to take card payments in Perth

Some shops in Perth are unable to take card payments due to a BT fault.

Shoppers looking to bag a bargain in the sales will not be able to pay by card in some shops on Perth High Street today (Tuesday, December 31).

This comes as emergency repairs to a BT line on the High Street are taking place near the EE shop.

The fault is also affecting some shops’ security systems.

A spokesperson for Perth and Kinross Council said: “There will be roadworks on the High Street in Perth today, for emergency repairs to a BT line.

“We’re sorry about the disruption, but the fault is affecting shops and preventing them from taking card payments so we have granted permission to get it fixed as soon as possible.

“The roadworks won’t affect traffic or parking.”

The works are affecting the pedestrian section of the High Street outside the EE shop.

Contractors are excavating the site to find the fault, and the excavation will be back-filled temporarily until early January, when a full, permanent reinstatement will be carried out.
