Shoppers returned to stores in Hamilton this morning as shops began to re-open fully for the first time in weeks.
Cars queued to enter into the car park at Hamilton’s Regent Shopping Centre while others stood outside the main entrance of the indoor mall to await entry.
Inside, shoppers remained socially-distanced as they were gradually allowed into the main shops by security.
A long queue could be seen weaving around outside the large M&S store while shoppers waited to be allowed inside.
Elsewhere within the town, car parks at the retail park next to the Vue Cinema were also full.
It comes as Hamilton residents are being asked to shop local this Christmas to give the area much-needed support after the pandemic.
Parking charges remain suspended in council car parks at this time throughout Hamilton, however, private car park operators may still be charging.
The First Minister announced on Tuesday that Lanarkshire would enter into a new tier today (Friday).
Speaking at her Holyrood daily briefing Nicola Sturgeon placed the county into Level 3, after three weeks in the toughest level 4 restrictions.
The First Minister said case numbers in North and South Lanarkshire during level 4 have fallen by well over a third.
Travel restrictions will still not be permitted between areas in Level 3.
Lanarkshire will enter back into Level 3 on Friday at 6pm which means hairdressers, gyms, bars and indoor entertainment and restaurants can begin trading again under the current restrictions tier 3 carries with it.
However, retail shops could open from 6am today.
