Shopping centre security staff help blood-soaked man after street attack

A man left covered in blood in a mindless street attack stumbled into a Paisley shopping centre looking for help.

The 30-year-old suffered a nasty gash to his face when he was set upon in Gauze Street.

Security staff at the Piazza Shopping Centre came to his aid and alerted the emergency services around 3.30pm on Tuesday.

It’s understood the victim became embroiled in an argument with another man who then launched the violent attack.

The victim was checked over by paramedics at the scene but was not taken to hospital.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the nasty assault to come forward and say members of the public could hold the key to identifying the suspect, who is believed to be in his 30s.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley’s community policing team, said: “A 30-year-old man was assaulted by another male in Gauze Street around 3.30pm on Tuesday.

“The victim suffered a laceration to has face in the incident and sought help in the nearby Piazza Shopping Centre.

“We are appealing to anyone who my have been in the area and witnessed the attack to come forward.

“Despite lockdown restrictions, it is likely people would have been around and may have saw what happened.

“If you have any information at all in relation to this incident please contact police.”

In a separate incident, a 22-year-old woman has been arrested and charged after she allegedly spat at a police officer.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance in Gallowhill Road, Paisley, around 10.15pm on Tuesday.

It is claimed the woman spat on the officer’s body during the incident.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We can confirm a 22-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with a police assault after an alleged incident in Paisley’s Gallowhill Road on Tuesday night.

“A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.”
