Tesco shoppers complain after glitch meant they couldn't buy food online

Hundreds of shoppers have complained to Tesco after a glitch meant that they were unable to process or amend their online baskets. Around 60% of customers had issues with their online shopping and 23% had problems with the Tesco app.

The supermarket giant has received more than 500 complaints about the glitch, which meant shoppers were unable to buy essentials, and many were also unable to book a delivery slot. According to the website DownDetector, the issues began at 11am on Wednesday, September 7.

Shoppers all over the country experienced the problem, and took to social media to inform Tesco about the problem reports Manchester Evening News. One person tweeted: "@Tesco Your website for online orders is broken again.

"Every time I try to amend an order by adding items, it does it then immediately removes them. Similarly when removing items, they are removed and added back in again. And yes, I have tried logging out and deleting cookies."

Another Twitter user, @Cazjohnson79, said: "Is there a problem with the app/website at the moment? It’s telling me it can’t update my basket. Looks like others are having similar issues. Do you know when the problem will be fixed pleased?"

@SallyHornsey asked: "@Tesco I'm online and logged in but I can't book a slot or add anything to my trolley. Tried with 2 browsers. Is something wrong? #hungry." Tesco has been approached for comment.

On Twitter, Tesco told one customer that they "are experiencing some issues at the moment and are trying to resolve this. Please try again later".

The supermarket giant added on Twitter: "There's currently an issue with the website that is stopping customers being able to complete basic functions such as booking a slot, checking out an order and amending orders."

Tesco also experienced a similar problem earlier in August, when customers couldn't add items to their baskets or change orders. Shoppers started reporting issues with their website at around 5.30pm on August 15, saying it had "crashed". The issue saw thousands of people unable to shop online or amend their baskets for almost four hours.
