Shoppers threaten to boycott John Lewis after retailer makes major change to its stores

High street giant John Lewis has confirmed dogs are now welcome in its stores but the decision has caused a huge divide among shoppers.

Responding to a question on Twitter, the retailer confirmed the news and also stated the change to its former policy will be with immediate effect.

John Lewis said: "Hi! We've decided to allow all customers, not just those with assistance dogs, to bring their dogs into our shops with immediate effect.

"Well behaved dogs only will be allowed in our shops and they must be on a fixed lead at all times, unless they are being carried."

While dog owners were thrilled at the news and change, some threatened to boycott its stores, reports GloucesterLive .

One person said: "Won't be visiting your stores anymore in that case, don't fancy sharing aisles with dogs."

While another user said: "It doesn't matter how well behaved a dog is if you are allergic to them. Hope the dogs replace the income you will lose from customers like me who will now avoid your store."
