Shoppers 'stuck' inside Tesco after store floods following heavy downpour

Shoppers were left 'stuck' inside a supermarket after it flooded amid heavy rain this afternoon.

Video footage taken by one stunned shopper shows flood water gushing into the entrance of Tesco Extra, in Failsworth.

Heidi Reitze was shopping in the store, in Ashton Road West, at the time.

She said: "All the water was coming down the slope of the car park and into the store.

"We were all stuck. There was a big crowd and the people who work there were running round frantically trying to stop people going out in it.

"They went to get brushes and started sweeping it out.

"It was very eventful. I could see some people were worried.

"I had to walk through a deep puddle to get out in the end."

Flash flooding has been reported across Greater Manchester following an outburst of torrential rain this afternoon, including on a number of major roads.

A slip road at junction 17 of the M60 was closed due to flooding, while other roads have also been left partially under water.
