Shoppers spot glaring error with Tesco and Asda's new queuing systems

Earlier this month supermarket giants Tesco and Asda announced plans for new queuing systems which would stop customers queuing outside stores.

Since lockdown started back in March, supermarkets have operated strict customer limits meaning in order to do your weekly shop, queuing outside has become the norm.

Tesco has updated its website informing customers about changes they can expect when visiting it stores when it is raining or cold.

On Tesco's website, it states: "If it's raining or particularly cold, we may ask you to stay in your car to queue – we'll let you know when you can come in."

And, it's not alone in this system either. Asda is trialling a "virtual queuing" system as part of its investment in longer-term social distancing measures.

This system will allow customers to log in to the queue remotely and wait in their cars to enter stores.

So far it is being trialled in its store in Middleton, near Leeds, and could be rolled out nationwide later down the line.

However, many shoppers have voiced their concern over the plans especially those who do not drive or own a car.

Many comment on our Liverpool ECHO What's On Facebook page confused as to what this would mean for non-drivers.

One user said: "Stupid question but what if you dont have a car to wait in."

Another said: "This is stupid what if you don't have a car and have got the bus or taxi then what."

A third added: "That's brilliant but what about the people who don't have a car not everyone can drive or is lucky enough to have a partner that can drive do they all have to wait in the trolley shelter?"

However some shoppers were relived with the plans. One said: "Thank god it’s been so sunny during this pandemic, what would we do if the weather changed."

Another added: "Thank god!! I cant physically stand in a queue for that long this is a great idea if it works"

And, a third said: "Tesco have got it spot on.we just need to slow down."
