Shoppers speak out after visiting Boots store in Broadmarsh Centre for final time

Shoppers have voiced their concerns as an 'essential' store at Broadmarsh Centre closes its doors for the final time on Wednesday, March 31.

Many made most of today and visited the Boots store for one last time.

Disappointed customers said the store is accessible and they are upset to see it being shut for good.

Chris Wilkinson, 23, the director of a publishing company, used to live on Parliament Street and remembers coming to the store once a month to get his dispenser for his asthma.

He said: "I found it convenient, and I am sure other people think the same.

"When you are dealing with health problems it is nice to know that you have a Boots around that is fairly accessible."

Now a commuter from Lichfield, he added: "Having a Boots just minutes away from where you live is essential to a lot of people".

Shirley Timmins, 77, now retired, said: "It looks like the high street as well as the Broadmarsh centre collapsed with more shops shutting down.

"It will soon look like a ghost town because the shops just do not get enough footfall."

Ms Timmins, of West Bridgford, has been living in Nottingham for over 50 years and said the high street alongside the Broadmarsh centre is 'decimated'.

It comes as more shops have shut over the last few years in the area.

She added: "I walk from where I live to this area quite often and this is the end of my route.

"This Boots would be the only one that I could go to, so it is inconvenient.

"I understand there is one in the Victoria centre, but why does everything have to be there?

"This used to be a nice area, with a lot of shops and it is just upsetting."

Steve Merrick, of Lincoln, 43, came to the store for an eye test and said: "The area itself looks horrible at the minute anyway.

"Boots shutting is going to make things a lot quieter.

“I think the whole area will look a lot better when the renovation is all done.”

Sandra McLoughlin, of Kimberley, 67, has echoed other shoppers concerns: “I come in about once a week, I am fed up with being at home.

"It is unfortunate that another shop is closing down.

“There’s quite a few Boots shops shutting around where I live.

"When there’s more shops open in town I come in more, it’s better than shopping online anyway."
