A box of Yorkshire tea at Morrisons has sparked fury amongst shoppers who say its £8.25 price tag is “stupidly expensive”.
Customers claim the box, containing 240 teabags, is selling for around double the price you can pay elsewhere.
One budget Facebook group shared an image of the box with its price tag, alongside a comment saying: "Is this a joke spotted in Morrisons yesterday box of 240 tea bags!", Manchester Evening News has reported.
Shoppers said they can pick up the same box in Aldi, Lidl and B&M for around half the price.
One said: "You can get the same thing for £4.50 in B&M!!!"
While another added: "OMG. Think they were £4.50 in Lidl and Iceland recently."
Another was so taken aback they thought the price tag was a mistake: "Think someone made a muck up with the price labels. No way would anyone pay that. They are having a joke."
But the price is in fact correct, as Morrisons have listed the product on its website, clearly labelled £8.25 for a 240 pack of Yorkshire tea.
Some shoppers took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the price tag.
One said: “I think Morrisons is now the most expensive supermarket to shop in , there doesn’t seem to be many offers or savings so not surprised at this”
Another added: “£4.49 still on Aldi, FarmFoods and Home Bargains, I went into Poundstetcher the other day Kellogg's Crunchy Nut Cornflakes £6.00 a box now!”
One user advised shoppers to simply go elsewhere.
He said: “Shop around own brands like Marks and Spencer are excellent. Similar prices to Tesco now and better. Waitrose too. Tea, lighter than builders tea but refreshing and quality.”
While another added: “Another reason not to shop at Morrisons”
The news comes as The Mirror’s latest price comparison on everyday supermarket items found that Morrison’s had the highest prices on average when compared with Tesco, Aldi, Sainsbury's and Asda.
It found that a standard 800g loaf of bread in most supermarkets, including Asda, Tesco, Aldi and Sainsburys is just 39p.
While Morrisons customers have to fork out an extra 40p, as the supermarket’s cheapest own brand loaf is currently priced at 79p.
The supermarket also had the highest prices for other basics such as eggs, washing up liquid and shower gel.
An average shopping basket for everyday staples came to £8.38 at Morrisons, compared with £6.77 at Tesco.
A Morrisons spokesperson said: "This is an unprecedented period of inflation and we are working hard to keep prices down and competitive for our customers.
"We do have Yorkshire Tea on promotion at the moment, 480 tea bag pack is £11 and the 160 tea bag pack is on promotion at £4."
