Shoppers shocked by man 'running around in his underwear' outside Co-op

A man was arrested after shocked shoppers called police over alleged drunken disturbing behaviour outside a convenience store.

Officers were called to the area near the Co-op on The Ridgeway in Murdishaw, Runcorn, at around 6.30pm on Tuesday.

A force spokesman said their attendance followed reports of a man "acting inappropriately".

According to one social media report from a member of the public, the man was "running around in his undies".

After being assessed by paramedics, a man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

The police spokesman said: "At around 6.30pm on Tuesday, May 18, police were called to reports that a man was acting inappropriately outside the Co-op store on the Ridgeway, Runcorn.

"Officers attended the scene and a 37-year-old man was located nearby.

"Due to concerns over the man’s behaviour, he was checked by paramedics at the scene as a precautionary measure, and subsequently arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

"He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries."
