Shoppers reveal best times to bag massive savings at Sainsbury's, Tesco, Asda and Morrisons

Shoppers have shared their tips on the best times to snap up money-saving deals at your local supermarket.

There's no doubt about it, Christmas is an expensive time of year, meaning many cash-strapped families will be hoping to save a few pounds going into 2022.

But there are ways to make savings on your supermarket shop and supermarkets often place yellow stickers on certain items in the 'reductions' sections of major stores.

This is usually due to a short shelf life, but can also occur when a product is out of season, such as unsold Easter eggs, or if a store simply has too much of one item in stock.

Here, Walesonline looks at the best time to visit stores to get items at reduced prices.

Tesco

Between 6.30pm - 7pm

One shopper says through trial and error, he's managed to pinpoint when his local Tesco store reaches for the sticker gun.

He said: "We have learnt by trial and error when the best times are, it took us three to five visits to nail the best time for Tesco reductions.

"We eventually worked out that between 6.30pm and 7pm is the best time for Tesco."

8am

Deals-mad Leslie Horton posted a picture of her Aldi food haul on Facebook group LatestDeals after discovering Aldi has its own 'yellow sticker' hour.

Posting in the community forum, Leslie shared a picture of her full trolley at Aldi, stuffed with meat, fruits and vegetables all with bright red labels.

She said: "Half Price - 50 per cent off discount stickers.”

Leslie revealed her trick was to go first thing in the morning as soon as the shop opened.

She added: "Turns out going to Aldi at 8am is not only quiet but a bargain fest, too.”

Another early riser wrote: "Aldi starts reducing (50 per cent) their items after 8 am.

"8am every morning at Aldi, I grab loads for half price or less. Never had an issue with any of it, it's all been delicious."

Asda

Between 8 pm and 9 pm for 24-hour stores, half an hour before closing for others

According to bargain hunters on MoneySavingExpert, the best time to pick up a cheap food haul at Asda is between 7pm and closing.

Money-saver Lisa Parry told the publication she managed to bag £60 worth of shopping for just £2.55 back in 2017, thanks to being in the right place at the right time.

She said: "It was amazing. I get such a buzz, it was really good and I am really proud of myself. I'll probably have to miss a week [of shopping] as my freezer is chock-a-block

"I save so much money. I am saving money each month whereas before I did this I wasn't saving money and was struggling to make ends meet. I used to spend about £40 per week on shopping and now it's a few pounds."

Lisa says the best time to visit your store is usually between 8pm and 9pm for 24-hour stores, and half an hour before closing for others.

Around lunchtime

According to MoneySavingExpert, reductions tended to start late morning or lunchtime, but Morrisons said it's up to individual store managers.

Aim for after lunch, as that's when the reductions start to drop.

Sainsbury’s

Starting at 1pm for 25 per cent off

According to money-savers, Sainsbury's tends to reduce items by up to 25 per cent at 1 pm, by up to 50 per cent at 5 pm and then again by 75 per cent at 8 pm.
